Joel Peter Nelson, born on November 2, 1939, in Waterbury, Connecticut, passed away at 85 on December 7, 2024, after battling cancer. Raised in a close Swedish Christian community, Joel and his identical twin brother, Jon, shared many life experiences, including serving on the USS Macon in the Navy. Joel graduated Summa Cum Laude from Boston University and worked at Bethlehem Steel before returning to Naugatuck to help with the family business. He later expanded and relocated The Carby Corporation, which he acquired from his father. An avid sportsman, Joel excelled in golf, tennis, and fly fishing, holding numerous championship titles. He is survived by his son Chad, daughter-in-law Charlotte, and grandchildren Jasper and Violet. Donations in his memory can be made to the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Waterbury.
